Scholarship Program

The Missouri Valley Family YMCA, with the help of the United Way and the Annual Strong Kids Campaign, offers scholarship memberships, within the limits of available funding, to individuals and families in financial need. In an effort to scholarship most individuals in need, it is necessary that everyone pay a portion of their fee unless extreme circumstances exist to warrant an exception. Scholarship applications are available at the Member Service Desk.

What do I need to do to APPLY?

  1. Ask the YMCA Member Service Desk for a scholarship application or download it (click here).
  2. After you have filled out the application completely and accurately and obtained the required information noted on the application, return to the Member Service Desk. Note: Your application cannot be processed until you have obtained all of the required information.
  3. Your application will be processed and you will receive a phone call from the YMCA within one week of the time you submitted your completed application.
  4. If you qualified for a YMCA scholarship, the percent that you have been sponsored for will be communicated to you during your approval call. When you come to the Member Service Desk to claim your scholarship, please be prepared to pay the remaining balance of the membership fees.

Frequently asked Questions~

  • Who qualifies for a YMCA scholarship membership?  Individuals and families in financial need, as identified by a YMCA household income sliding scale.
  • Who can be on a YMCA household scholarship membership?  A household membership is defined as two adults living at the same address, and all children under the age of 24. If you do not fit into this category and you have children, one parent will apply for a single parent household scholarship and the other will apply for an adult scholarship.
  • Once I am approved for a YMCA scholarship membership, how long do I have to claim my scholarship? Once I claim my membership, how long is my membership good for?  You have 6 months from the date your receive your approval call, to claim your scholarship membership. Once you have claimed your membership, your membership will expire 6 months from the date that you claimed the membership. 

*Scholarship Memberships must be renewed every 6 months. You will be notified by mail prior to your renewal date. You will need to complete a new scholarship application for your renewal to be processed.
