Welcome To the YMCA Swim Program
We have a class just for you! Classes are offered for participants as young All lessons are based on Red Cross guidelines and our levels are very similar to other programs in the area. The Red Cross program progresses dependent on the skills learned in previous levels. With each level the amount of endurance needed increases. Classes will be combined depending on enrollment. Private swim lessons are also available for all ages.
How do I know what level to register my child for?
Children 5 and younger start in our beginning swimmer program. All the skills in the beginning program are done with support. Children six and older can start in our progressive program. Our classes are consistent with other learn-to-swim programs in the area for determining the appropriate level. Check out our descriptions for the level that fits your child. Still have questions?? What do I bring?
Your child should bring a swim suit (remember, no street clothes allowed in pool), a towel and goggles. All medium and long hair should be pulled back into a ponytail. A padlock is recommended if using a locker.
Where do I go?
We have three locker rooms for your use. The family locker room has 5 individual rooms and must be used when helping a child of the opposite sex. We also have aquatic boys and girls locker rooms for participants to use. Each locker room leads directly to the pool area. Please remember to shower before entering the pool.
Make-up policy.
Because of the progressive nature of the program and limited class size, no makeup classes are available. Refunds or credits will not be given for missed classes.
Passing Classes
It is not uncommon for a child to stay in a particular level several times before successful completion. It is natural for participants to develop motor skills and become comfortable with water at different paces. Practicing skills during open and family swim is strongly recommended to improve swimming skills.
Attendance Policy
For the purpose of progression, we encourage our students to attend all of the class sessions. We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss, however if they miss 2 or more classes we will not pass them to the next level.
Bubbles
It is the parent's responsibility to put bubbles on children who require them. Please check level and description for appropriate bubble. If you need help, please ask.
Evaluations
Will be available at the Member Service Desk after 8 am on Friday of test week
